5. Vet in a Spin – James Herriot (non-fiction, memoir, re-read) **** (Feb 09)
6. Let Sleeping Dogs Lie – James Herriot (non-fiction, memoir, re-read) ***1/2 (Feb 09)
7. Various Flavours of Coffee – Anthony Capella (fiction, library find) ***1/2 (Feb 09)
I enjoyed this book. The writing style is very engaging, and even though, and the two-thirds point, I thought it would be quite predic, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that both my assumed endings were wrong. In the style of a biography, with some romance, adventure & history thrown in. I’m quite intrigued by the central idea of the theme – being the rise and subsequent crash of coffee prices around the turn of the last century, and plan to do some googling to seperate the fact from the fiction. I was going to give this book 4 stars, but at the last minute, dropped 1/2 a star because there was just a bit too much gratutious swearing for my liking. Still a good read though!
8. How to help you child read & write – Dr Dominic Wyse (non-fiction, library find) *** (Feb 09)
Ok, so this one was kind of cheating, as I didn’t read the whole book, only the 0-4 section. There was some good information in there, a lot of which //i was doing anyway, hence the three star rating. It would be a good resource if you had absolutely no clue as to where to start.
And if anyone was wondering why 50 weeks instead of 52 – two reasons: one, it makes for a catchier title, and two, I started halfway troyugh January.
Today I hope to make a start on the new quilt. And no, I haven’t recanted my procrastinator status, I’m going to use the kitchen table! I reallydon’t want to clean my studio, definately in the too hard basket!
Thursday’s to-do list isn’t getting any shorter, so let’s do this!
