changing it up.

It’s been a super productive weekend – I have two quilts with binding attached, I got a heap of work out the door, had a blast teaching the preschool class at Sunday School, I got a bracelet made, I hung out with the family. De-LIGHT-full. Today was going to be all about catching up on housework and some admin stuff, until I remembered I’d promised my Bible Study group I’d do up a pretty version of a summary we scribbled on butchers paper last week. We are currently studying Ephesians, and after getting ourselves confused, we though a summary was in order of chapters one to three.

I’m still not 100% convinced it’s finished, but it will do for now. I don’t want to get it too set, as I’m hoping to add more to it as we progress through the rest of Ephesians. (printable a4 PDF here.)

And now that’s done, and the baby is graciously still asleep for me, I think I might call it lunch time then possibly some time basking in the sun. My main itch at the minute is painting, the one beast I haven’t soothed over the weekend, so I might even crack a tube while she snores and get started on a piece for Car. I also hope to get a chance to do some photos for the blog, and maybe even catch up on my project366. Who am I kidding, she’ll wake as soon as I take my first bite But that’s ok, we’ll just shift gears and replan, for tea parties and blocks and stories and swings. Might even try and squeeze a bike ride in before pick up. Tick tock tick tock time is running, it’s Monday, it’s busy, and there’s a to-do list who’s butt needs kicking. Let’s do this!

where to start?

What a weekend! I had a blast with the Saturday Night Bloggers Boogey, got spoilt rotten for mothers day, had a lovely lazy evening last night…and now I’ve been whacked in a major way with the Monday stick, thanks to that lazy night! I’m trying to catch up on housework after a day out yesterday, as well as start,er,complete my bits and bobs for the Mothers Day swap. It feels my to-do list is getting longer with every passing day. Thankfully most of it is fun stuff, so it doesn’t fell like a chore. Like the stripes above – a custom fabric commissioned by a friend for a birthday party that I did up over the weekend and just waiting on final approval. My mind is buzzing a million miles an hour with so much crafty mojo, if only I could find the time! But Monday calls, and Monday means weekend recovery of the housework variety…surely with two adults in the house there should be less work to do, right? Does anyone else find weekends make for a stack more housework? The girl and I have been YouTubeing this morning, some Elmo and Rainbow Brite, waiting for outside to warm up enough. Now the sun is up higher, our little patio out the back is a lovely little warmth trap, so we hung out for a bit and read some stories before she wandered off for a nap. And as I sit in my little glasshouse studio, with the winter sun pouring in through the large back windows, it’s toasty and warm and I’m kind of losing my mojo to go and do the ironing and the sweeping and the mopping. Maybe I should mop myself into the studio? Monday Monday Monday, I wish you’d play nice. This list isn’t getting any shorter, time to get cracking it would seem. Coffee’s on board, girl is napping, let’s do this!

Mondayitis? Not me!

What a lovely weekend. Daylight savings finished, and left us with a glorious Sunday sleepin. A productive week meant a relaxing weekend. Saturday started cool, but turned deliciously warm, as only late autumn can, giving us a chance to get stuck into some long overdue gardening. A quick trip to the hardware store, and I had myself some nice new (and sharp!) garden shears, ready to attack Star Jasmines that had taken the form of triffids. And I won. For now. We also took the chance to go for a bike ride with small people, and help Bear master the art of riding without training wheels, including a special trip to the park just he and Daddy, with a phone call home to mummy to proudly announce his success. A spot of window shopping for oil paints had my brush finger itching, so I pulled out the acyrlics and carved out some painting time for me. Big Mistake. I Suck. ‘nough said. Easter crafts with the boys. Chocolate making, lattice slice baking, hot coffee drinking. Visits from special people. Some window-shopping-turning-click-and-ordering on a new craft. Cutting on a new quilt.

Monday is here, and heralds in a final busy four days before holidays. School, preschool, fundraisers, assemblies. But in all the busyness, Monday is looking to play fair. “Cuggles” with my girl. I feel the itch for some scones (which may or may not be related to the tub of heveanly organic cream screaming my name from the fridge). I want to finish cutting a swoon block and get it sewn up. There is some crochet and hand binding whispering sweet nothings in my ear, calling me to a date with the couch and a movie. Some designing and letting loose the ideas knocking to get out. Taking the reins in both hands and making the most of it, 3pm will be here before we know it. Monday. Four day week. Downhill run to holidays starts NOW. Let’s do this!

Right now. The Senses Edition.

I am…

…watching a baby girl as she dozes fitfully in my arms (darn winter bugs and their boogers)

….listening to my husband working on our new retaining wall and vegie garden.

…smelling very little – see point one about winter bugs.

…tasting the last of some yummy palmiers I made a couple of days ago.

…feeling the warmth of thick hiking socks.

…dreaming of so many plots and plans I don’t know where to start. Crafting. Fitness. Work. Music. My mojo is flowing thick and fast.

What’s happening for your Sunday afternoon?

It’s a girl!!!

Two days late, and in an awful hurry to arrive, our precious little Butterfly was born last Sunday, weighing in at a petite little 6lb11oz, a mere hour after my first contractions, and less than 20 minutes after arriving at hospital!

Life with three is crazy, but we are slowly finding our feet, and I hope to be back on the blogging/crafting bandwagon in the next week or so. I even managed to do some sewing today! I’ve got big plans for quilts, clothes, a softie or two. Lots of little things for stolen moments. But for now, the most precious moment in my day is the 40 minutes sitting on the lounge at midnight, as I sit with my feet propped on the opposite chair, my daughter in my arms, bathed in the glow of the softly murmuring television, and I gaze down at this tiny little creature that has joined our family, and suddenly, I can’t imagine life without her.

Postcards from Paris…

The children are playign happily in the warmth of the German summer afternoon. A map covers the table in front of us, brochures and guidebooks piled to one side. My husband glances at me. “If it’s raining in the Alps, maybe we could go somewhere else…” I look up at him, and pull a guide book from the pile, while mentally drawing a circle on the map, centered on our current location, a radius of 4 hours or so. “What would you think about 3 days in Paris?”.

My heart stirs, my soul sings. I stare at him in wonder.

“Paris? Are you serious?” He sees the gleam in my eye and laughs. He pulls the map towards him, and traces the four-hour-trip on the autobahn with his finger. My excitement mounts.  I dream of art and architecture and history and beauty. The Louvre. The Eiffel Tower. Versailles. Notre Dame. Disneyland for the children.

And then we are there. Standing under the Eiffel Tower. I am in Paris. Paris. And it is everything I’ve dreamed.

oh yeah…

Just one of those lovely days at home. One HST quilt top done. Another with the blocks joined & ready for slicing. PLaydough, paint, swings and sandpit. Clean house. Washing done. Little moments with little boys and lots of giggles. Exciting projects running in the background. Happiness, joy, love. The perfect kind of Thursday. Oh Yeah…

Farewell 2009

A small voice tickles me elbow as it begs “We make muffins, mummy?”. So out comes the recipe books. “Honey ones, mummy!” “Honey?” “Yes pweese, I like honey. Honey is my FAVOURITE!” Flick, flick, flick. Hmm. “Sweetie, there’s no honey ones. What else would you like?” “Ooo, those ones, pweese. I like chocolate. Chocolate is my FAVOURITE!”

The bench is rapidly covered in various tupperware containers, as the flour, sugar, & cocoa are evicted from the pantry. The chair scrapes as Bear pushes it over to stand on. Chubba Bubba clings to my legs, and whines to have a turn too. Anoterh chair appears. Into the bowl goes the dry ingredients. A little hand on my left sneaks in and *thwack* in goes the wooden spoon, and soon enough both the smaller boy child and I are covered in flour. Maybe the wooden spoon wasn’t such a good idea.

Slowly but surely, the other ingredients make their way into the bowl, a quick mix, a spoon or three, and the muffins are in the oven. The bowl becomes a tug-o’-war. And with a deft little diversion, mummy emerges victorious! The bowl, it’s mine, all mine! My preh-shus…

And with the taste of muffin batter lingering, I confess that this is likely my last entry for 2009. And what a ride it has been. The next few days are absolutely frantic, as I throw myself headlong into Christmas preparations. Cards are written and just require posting. Presents to post. And wrap. And it would probably be a *huge* help if I actually bought some. Time with family, both immediate & extended. Eating way to much. Regretting the size 6 shorts I bought just yesterday. The way my family does Christmas, size 10 would have been much smarter. Cuddles, carols & Christmas lights. Cleaning. Savouring the little moments. The glow of children’s eye, wide with enchantment at the magic of Santa. Life is short, so I’m holding my special ones very close this holiday season. And always keeping my eye on the Reason for the Season. Giving thanks. Wow. Christmas, you are finally here. 2010 is a blank canvas, and I intend on painting my story with bright colours. Merry Christmas everyone. Travel safely, eat muchly, and I’ll catch you on the flip side. Festive Season 2009 is HERE! LET’S DO THIS!

Wagon, where are you?

So, week two, and I missed Monday. Off the wagon already? Well, yes and no. I had intentions of blogging yesterday, of weaving a tale of magical weekend visits from St Nicholas. Of a happy homey day spent baking biscuits. Christmas tree ones. With green icing.

But I didn’t. Instead, yesterday became a day I know I’ll remember forever, yet I wish I could bury my head in the sand and forget. The day my world was rocked to it’s very foundations. The C word. Someone very dear to me. So please excuse me if I’m a bit lax in keeping up the blog-a-long, everything is kind of a jumble at the minute. Or maybe I’ll craft and create and blog my way through the days to keep my overactive mind off the subject that consumes it.

I just want this week to be over.
