Mummy Monday

What better way to front up to a new week than to hit the ground running? The housework was done early, stories had been read, hokey-pokey’s danced, and it was time to get busy! First up was some craft time. What else does one make with a train crazy toddler, but a train!

This little train was made from a nasal spray box, two eye drop boxes, a pipe cleaner, and part of an egg carton. Super easy, super quick, and super fun. Toot-toot!  The Fat Controller small boy thinks it’s pretty good.

Then it was time to make something yummy to warm us up on a cold, wet, winter’s day.

Mmmm… chocolate muffins. Does life get any better than this? A little boy to make my heart melt, chocolate muffins to keep my tummy full, and a wonderful husband who supports me 110% in anything I do. What more could a girl want? (Except maybe for this next baby to stop using her bladder as a trampoline!).

On the pregnancy front, all is going well. We’re at 32+4, so really starting to hit the business end of things. I am more uncomfortable than I was last time, but that’s only to be expected, when things aren’t as trim, “toit” & terrific as they were pre-children!

Craft-wise, I have the Jacob’s Ladder quilt top together, I just need to sort out the backing, then pin & quilt! I hope to be finished this week. I am also still going on the changemat, and I am 75% finished a pencil roll for one of Bear’s little friends. Plus I’m knitting a little blanket for Bear’s Pooh Bear, then I need to start a little something for a certain someone, but I don’t want to say too much, in case certain eyes are reading! Suffice to say, it is cute, and vintage. I just hope I have time to get it done.

For my mum…

Remember way back to preschool, and for mother’s day or the like, you would stick macaroni to cardboard, spray paint it silver, and then, proud as punch, thinking you were the next Picasso, presented the finished product as a gift? And mum (or whoever the intended recipient was) would smile indulgently, and pretend that it was so great, it should be hanging in the Louvre?

Well, I feel a bit like that with this painting. I’m not sure if I think mum will actually like it, or if it’s the grown-ups version of silver macaroni.

I have pondered it over the weekend, and still failed to reach a conclusion. I brought in an art critic (aka my long-suffering husband – “Don’t you think you have enough hobbies?”), and while he likes it, again, we failed to reach a concensus on it’s suitability for my mum. So I did what any self-respecting, confident amatuer artist would do. We bought a back-up present.

I also had a chance to use that gorgeous little owl stamp. Steeped in silver macaroni nostalgia, I decided to make the card as well.

I thought it was quite cute. But now,  pondering the hideous, and previously undiagnosed, issue of adultsilvermacaroni-itis, possibly it wasn’t the smartest move.

I think I think too much!

Toddler Craft

Is so much fun!

Last week, we made a cash register:

This was a huge hit, and now lives in the bottom drawer of our kitchen for easy access. It’s not really visible in the photo, but on the right hand side I have taped a ruler, as in the toddler’s world, the only way of paying for things is with a card! LOL, I even made him up some play money, but even after we “pay” in cash, and I give him change, he still whips out his card to pay, and go “beep, beep beep” on the buttons! Talk about a modern child!

This morning we made critters:

Who knew that quarter of an egg carton could be so much fun? They munched their way across the carpet (complete with sound effects from DS), before coming to rest next to a small boy’s lunch, where they were offered some “toasht” (with ham & cheese), for “yunch”. I wasn’t previously aware that critters were a tad partial to ham & cheese toast, but apparently it’s the lunch of choice!

We both had a lot of fun making these little projects, and they have brought just as much fun as store bought toys. This, and the fact the current favourite “toy” in the sandpit is a laundry powder scoop, has really made me re-evaluate things, and remind me that all the plastic toys in the world can’t replace a bit of quality craft time, and probably aren’t as interesting 10 minutes later!
